Most Pinot Noirs come at a price tag that is not for the everyday drinker. Shame really as Pinot Noir is truly the most versatile, interesting, complex and enjoyable red wine variety that one can drink. (in our humble opinion!!) The price probably reflects the fact that Pinot Noir is difficult to grow. It doesn’t like it to hot, it doesn’t like it to dry (or to wet for that matter) it likes it just right.
At Helen’s Hill Estate, Pinot Noir is by far our biggest grown variety. We have over 50 acres of the stuff! We have been growing it for many years, supplying well known Pinot Noir labels such as Coldstream Hills and producing our own Helen’s Hill label. Experience counts when it comes to Pinot Noir and at Helen’s Hill Estate we have certainly had a lot of experiences, not all of them good, but all allowing us to learn what has to be done to make great Pinot.
Ingram Rd Pinot Noir is the direct beneficiary of this experience. Probably better said, at $18.00 a bottle our customers are definitely the beneficiaries of our Pinot experience.
Following traditional winemaking processes, utilizing full French oak maturation our Ingram Pinot Noir display rich varietal characters on the nose, sweet cherry and strawberry flavours on the front and mid palate with a savory, earthy (spicy) finish on the back palate. Thanks to the French oak, the wine has a wonderful full textural mouth weight and long lasting finish. The best Pinot Noir under $20.00? We would like to think so!
